The reason she was the best blogger to me is because her posts were so detailed. I liked the fact that she tool her time while writing those posts. She used many quotes that I liked. Moreover, her posts were very informative and fun to read.

The best story in my opinion that we have read in this class for the Spring Semester has to be Dante's Inferno by Dante Aligheri. The reasons that is my favorite story was because it gives people a different insight on what we know as Hell actually. Dante's journey through the different levels and rings of Hell helped to show that Hell is more complex than people believe it to be. Moreover, as he travelled through the levels and rings of Hell he encountered many different situations. Also, he met or saw many people whom he had admired. As well as, he conversed with some of the people who he had known and just liked. Those conversations helped give Dante insight about what happened with different situations and what happened to different people. Another reason that this story is my favorite is because since Dante decided to travel through the level or rings of Hell we as readers got to know what type of people go to Hell. From what Dante saw while travelling through the levels or rings of Hell is that people who committed sins we sent to Hell. The ring or level they resided was determined by the sin or crime that was committed by the person that was deemed to Hell.

All of the quotes that I chose are quotes that I just so happen to fancy because they speak to me in way that none of the other quotes do. The reason being that I am a spiritual and earthy person. I believe that our fate is aligned in stars that are in the Universe which has the upmost power; so therefore, we cannot hide or run from our fate because it is predetermined by the alignment of the stars. Furthermore, since the Universe is of the upmost power who we fall in love with is predetermined as well and cannot be taken from us because our truth lies within the stars.
Hamlet considered to be modern because it contains various themes that still appear in modern life. Another reason is that in modern life suicide has become an issue that is very relevant because so many people are choosing to take their own lives. Suicide was also a theme in Hamlet that many people can relate to now people death was the theme and everybody understands that people die in different ways. Moreover, the thought of what happens when we die meaning where do we go in the after we die. This topic is still relevant to us today due to the fact that people often still wonder where do we end up after our life is over. Also, the family dynamic in Hamlet is like the family dynamic in modern life because there are many different types of relationships that are within the family. People from today can relate to Hamlet because many things that happened in the play are still happening today.

There are many reasons why Hamlet and Gilgamesh can be compared to one another. They are both known for their strength and power. Gilgamesh defeated his enemies and Hamlet avenged for his father's death. That is how they both showed their strength and power. Also they both turn into antagonists with tragic flaw in their stories which leads to them to their downfall. Both Hamlet and Gilgamesh are hubris.
Strength and Power

His fellows stand (at the alert), attentive to his (orders?), and the men of Uruk become anxious in … Gilgamesh does not leave a son to his father, day and night he arrogantly(?) … (1.51-58)
Here, the narrator transitions from fawning over Gilgamesh's great strength and handsomeness and accomplishment to telling the citizens to ask the god Anu to save them from Gilgamesh's horrible behavior. Is this a coincidence? Not likely. What could be more typical of an immature ruler like Gilgamesh than letting your gifts and possessions go to your head, resulting in prideful, arrogant behavior? Thus, these lines set the stage for one of the major issues in the story: how Gilgamesh learns that he basically the same as other humans, for all that 2/3 divine parentage business.
These quotes show how both Hamlet and Gilgamesh showed their true strength and power when they were about to face their enemies. They were both seen as the most powerful and courageous person in the land in which they lived.

America is like Utopia because it is the land of opportunity. Many people move to America to escape the poverty and oppression of their home country. America is known as the land of opportunity. People come from all over the world just so they can live the American dream. People see see America as a place where they can live peacefully and be in a state of euphoria at all times. America gives its own natives hope because there is no tyranny. America is known as the land of the free and brave. People are either proud to be an American or proud to become a citizen of America.

All these quotes show how the land of Utopia is great because there is nothing but peace and order. Everyone is happy and free because they can live the life they want to live. Just like America, people are free to do as they please and our rights are protected under the laws of the land.
According to Machiavelli's "The Prince" Presidenr Teump is not a good president. The reason being that he does not put the rift type of fear into people. Moreover, he is not a man that is t respected by the people of his country so no one takes him seriously. Also he is considered to be a racist bigot to many Americans and other countries that are either an ally to America or an enemy.

Both of these quotes describe what makes a good leader in Machiavelli's eyes. President Trump does not fit the criteria or description of a good leader according to what Machiavelli wrote in "The Prince".
The lyrics to this song are describing how Solange tried everything in her power that she can think of to get rid of the pain she was feeling inside. She uses different methods to try to escape all of the hurt she felt from her divorcing from her late husband. She uses the metaphor "It's like cranes in the sky" to describe how her relief from all the pain she felt inside was finally gone and she was set free. The flight of a crane is one that is gentle and smooth. They glide through the sky as if they have no trouble in the world. The beauty in this song is that she described her pain in a few words and repetitive phrases. She repeats away in the refrains to describe her sense of freedom from the divorce and unpleasant marriage. Moreover, she says "Sometimes I don't want to feel those metal clouds"; this metaphor describes how she does not want to feel pain at times; just as a crane does not fly high up into the clouds because it is not in their nature to do so because it keeps them from the dangers of flying to high and the clouds. The beauty also comes into play at the end of the song, when she hits the high note and uses her vibrato to show the release of the pain. This song shows how love can become poisonous and once you suck the venom out of your system (hence the divorce) you are healthy, happy, and pleasant again.

Socrates should not be in hell in Dante's Inferno. The only reason people would say that Socrates should be in hell because he was preaching against the Gospel of God. He decided to preach about how he believed that people who worship God are people who do not understand the way the mind of a person with class or wealth functions. Socrates was preaching how people should learn to educate themselves so they could become wise. The crowd of young and wealthy men followed Socrates because they believed in what he was preaching. People did not like that because they felt like Socrates was tainting the young men and anyone else that followed behind him and believed what he preached. Socrates was very influential and could persuade people to agree with his view on religion and life. He apologized for making people think he was using fancy language and for having them feel like he was trying to taint people through his teachings. He also stated why he decided to teach about his views on religion and life. He apologized to the crowd of Athenians for causing such an up roar in their community. What Socrates did was not a sin nor was it harmful for others and himself.

They also show that he was apologetic but he did not regret what he did or said. Also he did not regret how his teachings had an influence on people. The quotes from Dante's Inferno show that people were afraid to speak on what they truly thought and felt so they conformed. Socrates did not fit in that group and he was frowned upon just like people in Dante's Inferno. The last quote explains it all that people who lived in the First Circle did not believe in God but they received no type of punishment. Therefore, Socrates should not have been in hell he did nothing wrong; he was just an influential leader that had a lot followers. He was just smarter and outspoken that is why people disliked him and wanted him sentenced to death.
In Dante's Inferno the concept of hell is that there are nine circles or levels to hell. Dante takes a journey into the underworld; which we all know as hell. The first level of hell is called the limbo stage. This is the stage where non-Christians reside. Also people who are not baptized live in the limbo level of hell. They all live together in a castle that has seven gates and there you will find the seven virtues; hence the seven gates. The seven people Dante see are Homer, Socrates, Aristotle, Cicero, Hippocrates, and Julius Caesar. The second level is called lust. This where people who are overcome with lust reside. Since they are so lustful they are punished by being blown back and forth by a violent. They never have peace. Cleopatra, Tristan, Helen of Troy and others who were adulterous during their lifetime were found in this level of hell. The third level is called gluttony. This is where people who desire food and overeat reside. They are punished by having to live a lie a vile slush that is produced by icy rain; which symbolizes degradation. The fourth level of hell is called greed. This is where people who are greedy live. Their punishment is being divided into two groups: people who hoarded possessions and those lived lavishly and were frivolous. Both groups pushed weights with their chest and used them as weapons. Clergymen including cardinals and popes are found in this level of hell. The fifth level of hell was called anger. People who lived in this level of hell were wrathful and sullen. They were punished reflected the type of sin they committed in that lifetime. Filippo Argenti was found in the level of hell. The sixth level of hell is called Heresy. This is where people who heretics live. They are punished by being condemned to living in flaming tombs. ancient Greek philosopher Epicurus, Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II and Pope Anastasius II were found on this level hell. The seventh level of is called violence. This level was divided into three circles. People in the outer circle were the houses murderers and others who were violent to other people and property. Alexander the Great (disputed), Dionysius I of Syracuse, Guy de Montfort and many other notable historical and mythological figures such as the Centaurus punishment was that they sank into a river of boiling blood and fire. The middle ring the poet sees suicides who have been turned into trees and bushes which are fed upon by harpies. Profligates, chased and torn to pieces by dogs were also seen in this level of hell. The inner ring is where blasphemers and sodomites resided in a desert of burning sand and burning rain falling from the sky as their punishment. The eight level of hell is called fraud. This is where people who were fraudulent lived. This circle of Hell is divided into 10 Bolgias or stony ditches with bridges between them. In Bolgia 1, Dante sees panderers and seducer. In Bolgia 2 he finds flatterers. After crossing the bridge to Bolgia 3, he and Virgil see those who are guilty of simony. After crossing another bridge between the ditches to Bolgia 4, they find sorcerers and false prophets. In Bolgia 5 are housed corrupt politicians, in Bolgia 6 are hypocrites and in the remaining 4 ditches, Dante finds hypocrites (Bolgia 7), thieves (Bolgia 7), evil counselors and advisers (Bolgia 8), divisive individuals (Bolgia 9) and various falsifiers such as alchemists, perjurers and counterfeits (Bolgia 10). The ninth level of hell was called treachery. This level of hell is divided into 4 Rounds according to the seriousness of the sin though all residents are frozen in an icy lake. Those who committed more severe sin are deeper within the ice. Each of the 4 Rounds is named after an individual who personifies the sin. Thus Round 1 is named Caina after Cain who killed his brother Abel, Round 2 is named Antenora after Anthenor of Troy who was Priam’s counselor during the Trojan War, Round 3 is named Ptolomaea after Ptolemy (son of Abubus), while Round 4 is named Judecca after Judas Iscariot, the apostle who betrayed Jesus with a kiss.
Dante's view of what hell is and the modern view of what hell is can be considered to be similar. However, the punishments in hell that are mentioned in Dante's Inferno and the modern view of the punishments in hell differ.
The modern view of hell and Dante's view of hell are similar because people have to suffer when they sent to hell to live their eternal life. The modern view of hell is that people are deemed to total damnation for the rest of their lives if they sin and do not follow GOD's commandments. Also people who commit crimes are punished by being sent to hell. People believe that if you do good and lived by the word of GOD then you will not be sent to hell. Likewise, in Dante's Inferno people who believed in GOD did not go to hell and people who did not went to hell. Also the people who committed sins and crimes were punished in hell for their wrongdoings. The only difference is that in the modern world there is just one level to hell; while in Dante's Inferno there were nine levels of hell.
The punishments differed because in the modern world when a person is sent to hell he or she has sinned their entire life and they have never worshipped GOD. Their punishment in hell is that they have to suffer by living in a flaming environment and being burned for the rest of their lives. While in Dante's Inferno punishments were based on what a person did while they were living during the time period in which they existed.
There are 71 verses in the Quran that discuss the life of Jesus.
The fact that Jesus taught the same religion that had been presented by Moses and the other Prophets is supported even by the existing Gospels. For example, according to the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus declared in the Sermon on the Mount: "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the Prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill." (5: 17).
This quote shows that Jesus is seen as a prophet and not the almighty.

This quote shows that Jesus was not liked by some of the people in Israel. They tried to hurt him and kill him. They plotted against him but they did not kill him like they did in the Bible.
The similarity between the Bible and the Quran is that they both talk about God, Jesus, and Mary. They both state that we should praise our God and repent to him when we have sinned. They both teach us how we should live according to the word of our God. Also if you disobey God then you have sinned. Another similarity is that they both express to us how the world and everything on it was created by God. Moreover, they are both considered to be sacred texts. Both texts describe the life of God, Jesus, and Mary. The Quran and the Bible are both worshipped.
According to the Quran 2 " Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds". According to the Bible "Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name" According the Quran "The path of those You have blessed, not of those against whom there is anger, nor of those who are misguided". According the Bible "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies".
All these quotes describe how the Quran and the Bible are similar.
The difference between the Quran and the Bible is that the Quran is the holy book for Muslims; while the Bible is the holy book for Christians, Catholics, Baptists, and etc. The Quran expresses that Jesus is not the son of God. Also Mary is not considered to be a women of virtue or what we call a virgin. Moreover, Jesus is not actually named Jesus his name is Allah. While in the Bible Mary is considered to be a virgin and she conceived Jesus through the divine intervention of Father, The Holy Spirit, and Son. Mary became impregnated via immaculate conception. In the Bible Jesus is the son of God. Moreover, Mary is the mother of God. Another difference is that Jesus name is either Jesus or Messiah.
According the Quran "5:112] Recall that the disciples said, "O Jesus, son of Mary, can your Lord send down to us a feast from the sky?" He said, "You should reverence GOD, if you are believers". According to the Bible in Matthew 1: 18-23 "18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came abouta : His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
In ancient times Gods played a big role when it came to wars. Before a war could be fought that had to seek permission from the God of war. If the God consulted against the war then they did not participate in one. The war Gods were the ultimate fighters; no one was better. That is why they could give advice about war. Also they could tell whoever asked them about going to war what to do before the war to prepare. Moreover, they could tell them whether or not going to war was the was the best option to solve the issue at hand.
In modern time God still plays a role in war but the role is very small. However, it is nothing like the ancient times. God or gods do not play a big the major role in wars. Wars are controlled by the government and the President. Our country is based on God but he is not the controlling factor. God is prayed to and talked about in the time of war as a ways to help people get through it and cope with the casualties that come with war. God is used as a getaway or savior when there is a war.
The wars in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan all started because of a terrorist attack in September on the 11th in the year of 2001. Two planes crashed into the Twin Towers in New York City, New York. Once that happened President George W. Bush said hat the United States was going to declare a war against terrorism. Many Americans were relieved when he said that he was declaring a war because they wanted revenge and vengeance for all the lives that were lost during the attack and the aftermath of the attack. Once the war started our Military forces was well supported and loved. Many people even enlisted into the Military when the attack happened because they were compelled to protect their fellow Americans and their families from terrorists.
The Bhagavad-Gita is a Hindu story about war. The war was between a man and his cousins; they were trying to determine who was the rightful heiress to the thrown because the king died. One quote from the story that stood out and shows that war should be supported is "Bhishma, Drona, Jayadratha, Karna, and many others are already slain. Kill those whom I have killed. The Art of War is a book about how one can conquer their enemy during the time of war. It can range from an actual war to a business war. There are some quotes in that book that captured my attention that I believe to be true about war and why it should be supported. One quote: is

Hence it is a subject of inquiry which can on no account be neglected"...Another quote is “Engage people with what they expect; it is what they are able to discern and confirms their projections. It settles them into predictable patterns of response, occupying their minds while you wait for the extraordinary moment — that which they cannot anticipate” (Sun Tzu, The Art of War).
There were many news reports about 9/11 and all of the wars that have taken place since 2001-now. When it comes to the war in Syria one news article reported "In September 2014, a US-led coalition launched air strikes inside Syria in an effort to "degrade and ultimately destroy" IS. But the coalition has avoided attacks that might benefit Mr Assad's forces" (BBC News). One new article said "A sizable majority of Americans continue to support a war to oust Saddam Hussein, and most seem to believe the worst about possible links between the Iraqi leader and the Al Qaeda terrorists" (Pew Research Center). Lastly, the war in Afghanistan was covered in a news article that stated ""If militias are going to fight, they should be organized by the government and fight under its flag," he said. "If they go out on their own, things like this can happen" (U.S. News). All of these new stories show that those war were supported because the ultimate goal was to reduce and prevent terror attacks against Americans and the people who live in those Middle Eastern countries.
Our new President Donald Trump is the public figure that can be considered the most tragic person in our news today. He is tragic figure because many people believe that he is a bigot and a racist. Many people think that Donald Trump should be impeached because his actions have stopped a lot people from returning home to their families. Also he has built a wall at the Mexican border at the Gulf of Mexico keeping Mexicans from entering the United States illegally.
Trumps slogan "Together, we will Make America Great Again!" (https://www.donaldjtrump.com/) has made many Americans upset. They feel like he is being condescending towards our former President Barack Obama and African Americans. Most people have taken the slogan as him saying America was not great because Barack Obama was running the country. Since he is considered to be an African American many feel as if Trump is saying the country is back to way it should be and better because another rich Caucasian man is running the country.

Trumps ideology was that he is keeping American's safe from terrorists that have been plotting to come into America and attack. However, what he ended doing was keeping a lot of people who already lived in America and were overseas working in the Middle East from coming home because he banned flights to America for certain Middle Eastern countries. This hurt many families because some contract workers and even people the Military were not allowed to come home. Some people who lived America already and were of the Middle Eastern ethnicity were refused flights back to America. They ended loses their homes, cars and other possessions that they have because of President Trump's ban. Many Americans do like Trump's orders and are trying to everything they can to stop him from making illegal orders. Even a judge said that Trump's actions were illegal and dangerous.
Trump's Presidency can be compared to classical tragedies. His presidency is like classical tragedies because he has been deemed as a hero but he has many character flaws. For example, Oedipus was seen as a hero because he solved the riddle of the Sphinx and became the king of Thebes. Once he became the king he helped the suffering country become a better place to lived. In comparison, Trump's presidency made him a hero to White Americans and others who voted him into the White House. Many people feel that Donald Trump is going to make America a better place to live and make a America a great country again simply because he is Caucasian. Those people who voted for him feel like he saved us from "A NIGGER" known as our former president Barack Obama. Oedipus's tragic character flaws were his arrogance, ignorance, prudence and he was boisterous; Donald Trump has the same character flaws. Both of them can not see what other people see because they are naïve when it comes to living in a normal working middle or lower class person's life. They are both seen as great to many and a great danger to a few.
One Friday Travis was at the mall and so was I. I saw him shopping in the stores. We walked pass each other and did not say speak to one another. There were a lot off people at the mall that day. It was a beautiful day. We stayed at the mall until the night came. It must have been gang initiation weekend because a lot of gangs were out when night fell. As we were exiting the mall there were a lot of people in the parking lot. They were all surrounding their vehicles. There was music playing loudly. There were a lot of men dressed in their colors that are affiliated with their gang and they were smoking and talking loudly. Then Travis exited the mall and the scene changed.
As Travis and his friends entered the parking lot every one's head began to turn. All of the gang members began to turn towards Travis and they walked up to him. Travis and the gang members began arguing in the parking lot. The arguing escalated and fist fights started to happen. Shots rang out and people were scattering around the parking lot. The gang members were aiming at Travis and his friends. Before I knew Travis got shot by one the gang members. Then time froze for a few seconds.
I run over to where he fell after being shot and immediately yelled for someone to get help. I took off my brand new white shirt and began to apply pressure to the gunshot wound. My friend said "You are only in a bra, put on a shirt". My response was"So, I have to apply pressure I do not want him to die". Then I was telling Travis that I need him to live and that he is my baby and I love him. Then I told my friend to go into the mall and buy me a new white shirt.
The ambulance and police arrives at the same time. The EMT's put Travis on the stretcher and rushed him to the hospital. I jumped into his car and followed them to the hospital. I was covered in his blood. Everything suddenly went black.
IT WAS A DREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I woke up and I was breathing heavily. I had tears running down my eyes. I picked up the phone and called Travis he did not pick up. Then I sent him a text asking him if he was okay and he responded and said yes. Then a few years later he told me that people were trying to hurt him.
My view on a modern hero is that a person can be considered a hero when he or she has done something that makes them stand out from a crowd of people and is good for all. The example I used is the first three women that were allowed to join the Infantry in the Marine Corps. They paved the way women like me that want to join the Military or the Marine Corps specifically.
Compared to the posts that I read from my colleagues is that we all believe that a hero should be someone that is courageous. Also this person must make accomplishments that no one else have made. Moreover, a hero is someone that sets an example for others to follow. They create a standard or trend that everyone wants to do because this person is seen as influential. Another way my view and my colleagues view can be compared is that we feel that a hero has to risk their life for another to be considered a hero.
My belief on what a modern hero can be contrasted to my colleagues because I believe that a hero does not have to save someone in order to be considered a hero. However, my colleagues believe that a hero is a person that saves someone else. The three women that I chose to write about did not save anyone to become a hero to me; but the fact that they joined the Infantry in the Marine Corps means that they are willing to risk their life for the entire country to make sure we remain strong and free from terrorism and other acts that would threaten our country and its people. Another reason why our views can contrasted is my colleagues believe that a hero must be a man. I feel that anyone can hero.
A modern hero can be just a normal person. The difference between that person and everyone else is that he or she does something that makes them stand out and is good for all. My modern day heroes are the three women that were the first ones to enter infantry in the Marine Corps. They paved the way for young girls and women all over the United States that have always wanted to become apart of the Infantry in the Marine Corps. I am one of those women that wanted to join the Marine Corps but due to the fact that I am short and did not meet the height requirement. However, these three women gave me courage and showed me that through determination you can accomplish anything no matter how many times someone tells you that you will NEVER be able to accomplish your set goal or that because you are a woman you will NEVER be able to have that job. They also helped me realize that I should not give up on my dreams to join the military. Since I saw these three women show the whole world that women can participate and excel in the Infantry in the Marine Corps I have decided to give the military another shot. I am going to enlist in the Army later on this year. The bravery and persistency from these three women show us that women can do ANYTHING a man can do; not only can they do it but they are damn good at it as well.
